# First-run setup

> Sign in, connect Claude and ElevenLabs, check your computer and add your product in DemoVexa's setup window.

The first time DemoVexa opens, a setup window walks you through seven steps: signing in to your DemoVexa account, connecting Claude and ElevenLabs, checking your computer and adding your product. It takes about 3 minutes.

The setup window stays open until you finish or skip it. Use **Back** and **Continue** at the bottom to move between steps, or **Skip setup** to close it. You can change everything later in **Settings** and **Workspace settings**.

## 1. Welcome

The first screen, "Welcome to DemoVexa", shows what you're about to do: **Sign in**, **Connect Claude**, **Connect ElevenLabs**, **Check this computer** and **Add your product**.

1. Click **Get started**.

## 2. Sign in to DemoVexa

Your DemoVexa account holds your plan: how many videos and renders you can make each month.

1. Click **Sign in to DemoVexa**. Your browser opens the DemoVexa account page and the setup window shows a code.
2. Sign in there (or start a free trial), check that the code matches, and click **Yes, sign in**.
3. The window shows **Signed in as** your email and plan. Click **Continue**.

**Sign in later** skips this step. You can sign in any time from **Settings → Account**, but you can't make videos until you do. See [Your account and computers](/docs/account/sign-in).

## 3. Connect Claude

Claude writes your briefs, scripts and posts, and builds the videos. Choose how it runs with the toggle at the top.

| Option | What it uses | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| **My Claude login** | Claude Code, signed in to your Claude account | Your own use only |
| **Anthropic API key** | An API key from Anthropic; every call is billed to it at API prices | Selling videos or sharing the studio with a team |

### With your Claude login

1. Select **My Claude login**.
2. If Claude Code isn't installed yet, click **Copy** next to the install command and run it in a terminal. It installs Claude Code and starts it so you can sign in.

   On macOS and Linux:

   ```bash
   curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash && claude
   ```

   On Windows, in PowerShell:

   ```powershell
   irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex; claude
   ```

3. Sign in when Claude Code asks you to.
4. Back in DemoVexa, click **Test Claude**.

### With an API key

1. Select **Anthropic API key**.
2. Paste your key into the field. Anthropic keys start with `sk-ant-`.
3. Click **Save**.
4. Click **Test Claude**.

Your keys are stored in your computer's password store (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager or the Linux keyring) and only sent to Anthropic and ElevenLabs. They're never shown in full again.

## 4. Connect ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs records the voiceover for your videos.

1. Paste your key into **ElevenLabs API key**. ElevenLabs keys start with `sk_`.
2. Click **Test ElevenLabs**.

> [!NOTE]
> Commercial use of ElevenLabs voices needs a paid ElevenLabs plan (from $6/month).

### If a test fails

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| The key was rejected: it's wrong, revoked or for another account. | Copy a current key from your account and paste it again. |
| The account is out of credit or over its rate limit. | Add credit or wait, then test again. |
| That doesn't look like an Anthropic API key (they start with sk-ant-). | Check you copied the Anthropic key, not another one. |
| The key has spaces or line breaks in it; copy it again. | Copy the key again in one piece. |
| That looks too short for an ElevenLabs API key. | Copy the whole key. |
| ElevenLabs didn't accept the key. | Check the key on your ElevenLabs account and paste it again. |

## 5. Check this computer

DemoVexa checks that your computer has what it needs to build and render videos.

- If everything passes, you'll see "This computer is ready."
- If not, you'll see how many things there are to fix, and each one shows how to fix it. Fix them, then click **Check again**.

You can continue without fixing everything now. The same checks are in **Settings**, each with a fix and, where useful, a command to copy.

## 6. Add your product

This step creates your first workspace from your app's code.

1. Under **App code folder**, click **Choose folder…** and pick your app's folder, or paste its full path, such as `/Users/you/code/app` or `C:\code\app`.
2. Check the summary DemoVexa shows for the folder: its files, languages, frameworks, git branch and docs.
3. Check **Product name**. It's filled in from the folder; change it if needed.
4. Click **Add product**.

The folder can be in any language. DemoVexa only reads it; nothing in it is changed. If you don't want to add a product yet, click **Skip this step**.

## 7. You're all set

The last step shows a checklist of what you've set up. Choose where to go next:

- **Analyze my app** opens **Workspace settings** and starts Claude's analysis of your code. Claude reads your code and fills in the empty fields, such as what the product is and who it's for. It usually takes 1 to 3 minutes.
- **Go to projects** takes you straight to the Projects page.

> [!TIP]
> Analyze your app and add your brand before your first video, so the workspace has your product's details, logo and colours.

## Run setup again

To open the setup window again, go to **Settings → Studio** and click **Run setup again**.
