# Projects and video types

> Pick a video type, create a project, find and manage your projects, and get around the project editor.

Source: https://demovexa.com/docs/videos/projects

Every video you make in DemoVexa is a project. This page covers the four video types, how to create a project, how to find and manage projects on the Projects page, and how the project editor is laid out.

Projects belong to the current workspace, so switch workspaces first if you're making a video for a different product. See [Workspaces](/docs/workspaces/overview).

## The four video types

| Type | What's on screen | Default length and platform |
|---|---|---|
| Product Intro | Animated UI | 30 s, LinkedIn |
| Feature Demo (the default) | Animated UI | 40 s, Website |
| Feature Launch | Animated UI | 20 s, LinkedIn |
| Event Recap | Your media | 15 s, LinkedIn |

The three animated types recreate your app's real screens in code, so they need your app's code folder. An Event Recap is made from your own photos and clips instead; see [Event recaps](/docs/videos/event-recaps).

The default length and platform are only starting points. You can change both in the brief.

## Create a project

1. Click **New project** in the sidebar, or press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>N</kbd> (on Windows/Linux <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>N</kbd>). You can also start one from the command palette.
2. In the **New video** dialog, choose a video type.
3. Enter a **Project name**.
4. Optionally fill in **What's it about? (optional, one line is enough)**.
5. Check the **Language**. It defaults to the workspace's video language.
6. Click **Create project** to open an empty brief, or **Create and write the brief** to have Claude write the brief for you straight away.

> [!NOTE]
> In a browser tab, the browser may keep <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>N</kbd> for itself and open a new window. Use the **New project** button or the command palette instead.

You can also start a project from an idea on the [Ideas](/docs/more/ideas) page, or bring one in from a `.demovexa` file with **Import** (see [Export and import](/docs/more/export-import)).

## The Projects page

The Projects page lists every project in the current workspace. Press <kbd>⌘</kbd> <kbd>1</kbd> (on Windows/Linux <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>1</kbd>) to jump to it.

If the workspace has no code folder yet, a banner at the top tells you. Animated videos need one, so add it in **Workspace settings → App & docs**.

### Search, filter and sort

The toolbar above the projects has:

- **Search projects** to find a project by name.
- **Favorites** to show only starred projects.
- **Needs attention** to show projects whose work failed or stopped. When there are several, **Restart all N** restarts them in one go.
- A type filter to show one video type.
- A sort menu: **Last updated**, **Recently created**, **Recently viewed**, **Favorites first**, **Name A–Z** or **Most rendered**.

### What the cards show

Each project card shows where the video has got to.

| Badge or strip | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Draft**, **Planned** or **Built in code** | How far the animation has got: not planned yet, scenes planned, or built |
| **Voice** | The project has a voiceover |
| **Done** | Every format you chose has been rendered |
| Progress strip | Work is running: **Queued to build**, **Claude is building**, **Rendering the preview** or **Making covers** |
| Failure strip | Something went wrong: **Build failed**, **Render failed (N formats)**, **Covers failed**, or a job stopped by a shutdown |
| **Not built yet** | The video hasn't been built; **Start** builds it now and **Add to batch** queues it |

### Play a finished video

Hover over a finished project and click the play button. The player opens with **Versions**, so you can switch between the rendered formats, and download links for each one.

### Favorites

Click the star on a card to mark a project as a favorite. Use the **Favorites** filter or the **Favorites first** sort to keep them at the top.

### Restart failed work

When a card shows a failure strip, click **Restart** on the strip to run that step again. Work that was cut off because the studio closed or the worker crashed shows "Stopped unexpectedly (the studio was closed or the worker crashed). Start it again." Restart it the same way, or use **Needs attention → Restart all N** to restart everything at once.

### The right-click menu

Right-click a card for:

- **Open**
- **Play video**
- Add to or remove from favorites
- **Copy link**
- **Export project…**
- **Delete project…**

### Delete a project

1. Right-click the project's card and choose **Delete project…**, or open the project and choose **Delete project** from the **⋯** menu.
2. Confirm.

Deleting removes the brief, script, voiceover, renders and covers. If the project came from an idea, the idea goes back on your creation list.

> [!WARNING]
> Deleting can't be undone. If you might want the project later, export it first with **Export project…**.

## The project editor

Click a card to open the project editor.

The header shows a breadcrumb, the project title (click it to rename), the save state (**Saving…** or **All changes saved**) and a **⋯** menu with **Export project…** and **Delete project**. Changes save automatically.

### Steps

Numbered step tabs run along the top and stay in view as you scroll. Each step ends with a button that takes you to the next one.

| Video type | Steps |
|---|---|
| Product Intro, Feature Demo, Feature Launch | 1 Brief, 2 Script, 3 Voice, 4 Animate, 5 Export, 6 Publish |
| Event Recap | 1 Brief, 2 Script, 3 Media, 4 Storyboard, 5 Voice, 6 Export, 7 Publish |

### Ask Claude

The floating **Ask Claude** button opens a chat where you describe a change in plain words. Claude applies it to the script, voice, animation or renders. Suggested requests include:

- "Add 9:16 and 16:9 versions"
- "Use a calmer female voice"
- "Shorten the script to 30 seconds"
- "Zoom in closer on each click"
- "Re-sync the animation to the new voice"
