# Write the script

> Edit the voiceover lines, captions and voice direction, fit the length, and set the title and end cards.

The Script step (**Voiceover script**) is where you shape what the video says, line by line. Claude writes a first draft from your brief when you click **Write my script**; you edit it here before any audio or animation is made.

## The length bar

At the top of the step, a bar shows the script's estimated length against the length you set in the brief. If the script runs long, cut words or lines, or ask Claude for a shorter rewrite.

## Lines

The script is a list of lines. Each line is one beat of the video and has:

| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Role | Where the line sits in the video: **Intro**, **Montage**, **Photo wall** or **Outro** |
| Voiceover text | What the narrator says |
| **On-screen caption** | The short text shown on screen during the line |
| **Voice direction** | How the line should be spoken |

You can reorder lines, delete them, or click **Add a line before the outro** to add one.

> [!TIP]
> Keep captions much shorter than the spoken line. Viewers read the caption at a glance while they listen to the rest.

### Voice direction

Use **Voice direction** to change how a line sounds:

- **Tags** in square brackets set the delivery, for example `[warm]`.
- **CAPS** on a word puts emphasis on it, for example "approve it in ONE click".

The direction is used when the voiceover is generated, so change it before you generate, or generate again afterwards.

## Ask Claude for a rewrite

To change the whole script at once, use **Ask Claude for a rewrite**.

1. Type a note saying what you want, such as "Shorter and more direct" or "Open with the problem, not the product".
2. Click **Rewrite**.

Claude rewrites the script with your note and the brief in mind.

## Scenes to animate

For the animated video types (Product Intro, Feature Demo and Feature Launch), **Scenes to animate** lists what Claude plans to show from your app for this script. The Animate step builds these scenes from your code, so check the list before you move on.

## Title card and end card

The video opens and closes on cards you can edit here.

| Card | Fields |
|---|---|
| **Title card** | **Kicker** (the small line above the title), **Title**, **Subtitle** |
| **End card** | **Tagline**, **Button**, **Thank-you line** |

The tagline is set per project here; it isn't part of the workspace's brand settings. The end-card button starts from the workspace's default call to action, which you set in **Workspace settings → General → End-card button**.

## Approve the script

When you're happy with the script:

- For an animated video, click **Approve script, choose a voice** to go to the [Voice step](/docs/videos/voice).
- For an Event Recap, click **Approve script, add media** to go to the Media step (see [Event recaps](/docs/videos/event-recaps)).

> [!NOTE]
> If you change the script after the voiceover has been made, the Voice step tells you it's out of date. Generate the voiceover again so the audio and animation match the new words.
