Export and import projects
Save a project as a .demovexa file and bring it into another workspace or onto another computer.
You can save any project as a single .demovexa file and import it again, into another workspace or onto another computer. Use it to move a project, share it with someone else who uses DemoVexa, or keep a copy before you delete a workspace.
#Export a project
- Open the export from either place:
- On the Projects page, right-click the project's card and choose Export project….
- In the project editor, open the ⋯ menu and choose Export project….
- Decide whether to tick Include the rendered videos.
- Export the file.
The file holds the brief, script, voiceover, uploads, covers, posts and the animation's code: everything needed to carry on with the project.
#Include the rendered videos?
| Choice | File size | After importing |
|---|---|---|
| Without rendered videos | Smaller | Render the formats again on the Export step |
| With Include the rendered videos | Much larger | The MP4s are there straight away |
Tip
Leave rendered videos out when you only want to keep working on the project somewhere else. The file stays small, and you can render again after importing.
#Import a project
A project always comes into the workspace you're in, so switch to the right workspace first.
- Switch to the workspace you want the project in.
- Go to Projects and click Import. You can also press ⌘ K (on Windows/Linux Ctrl K) and choose Import a project (.demovexa).
- Choose the
.demovexafile.
The project appears in the workspace's project list.
#Copies
Importing never overwrites anything. If the project, or its video, already exists in DemoVexa, it comes in as a copy instead. The copy is renamed, with " (copy)" added to its name, and you'll see "It already existed here, so it came in as a copy."
This means you can safely import the same file twice, or import a project back onto the computer it came from.
#If the import fails
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| This isn't a DemoVexa project file. | Check you picked a .demovexa file exported from DemoVexa, and that it wasn't changed or cut short while being copied. |
| This project was exported by a newer version of DemoVexa. Update the app first. | Update DemoVexa on this computer to the same version or newer, then import again. |
Note
Export and import aren't included in the trial. See Plans and usage.
