Games
Seven quick games to play while a video is made, with your best scores and a weekly leaderboard.
Making a video takes a few minutes. While it builds, you can play one of seven quick games right inside DemoVexa: beat your best score and climb the leaderboard against everyone else making videos.
Open them from Games in the sidebar, Play a game on the Making your video page (or the banner above a project being made), or press ⌘ K (on Windows/Linux Ctrl K) and choose Play a game.
If you don't see Games in the sidebar, they aren't switched on for your account yet.
#How playing works
- Pick a game to open its page. How to play, under the game, explains the goal, every control and the scoring; the ? button jumps to it.
- Press Start (or Enter) when you're ready. The game doesn't begin until you do.
- Most games are endless: they keep getting harder until you miss, and your score is how far you got. Type the Script is a 60-second test.
- The bar at the top shows your score, your last score and your best. Pause stops the game, and so does pressing Esc or switching to another window. Restart starts a fresh run.
- Sound starts off. Turn it on with the speaker button; DemoVexa remembers your choice.
- Your video keeps building while you play. When it's done, a notice in the corner says so, with a button to open it.
- Your runs, beside the game, lists every game you've played on this computer: when, the score and how long it lasted, with your last, best and average score.
#The games
| Game | What you do | Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Frame Stack | Drop sliding film frames onto a tower. Overhangs are sliced off; perfect drops earn a bonus | Space, click or tap |
| Render Runner | Run along a timeline, jumping bugs and 404 blocks and ducking buffering spinners | Space or ↑ to jump (hold for higher), ↓ to duck; tap and swipe down on touch screens |
| Clip Merge | Slide tiles so matching ones merge, from Frame and Clip up to Premiere, Legend and beyond | Arrow keys or W A S D, swipe or drag |
| Beat Cut | Cut clips on two lanes as they cross the playhead, on the beat, while the track speeds up | F and J (or ← →), tap the left or right half |
| Cursor Rush | Click buttons, checkboxes, toasts and golden stars in an app window before their timers run out. You have 3 hearts | Click or tap |
| Word Streak | Guess five-letter words in 6 tries each, one after another. Blue means right spot, orange means elsewhere in the word | Type and press Enter, or use the on-screen keyboard |
| Type the Script | Type voiceover lines for 60 seconds. Your score is your words per minute, adjusted for accuracy | Type; tap the text on a phone or tablet to open the keyboard |
#Best scores and the leaderboard
- Your best score in each game is kept on your computer and shown on its card and in the score bar.
- Each finished run also goes to the leaderboard, shared by everyone using DemoVexa, beside the game: the top 20 players this week or of all time, and your own place. The game-over card shows where your run landed.
- This week starts every Monday at 00:00 UTC; All time keeps everyone's best.
- You appear as your first name and the initial of your last name. Choose Name under the board to pick a nickname, or Hide me to stay off the board (you still see your own rank).
- Played offline? Your best is saved and goes up the next time you're online.
- Scores that couldn't come from real play are refused or removed, and a game's leaderboard starts fresh when its rules change.
